OUR SPACES

In order to offer as many sports as possible,we work in multiple locations the island of Lesbos.

Gym Lesvos

Most of our activities are offered in our Gyms. In Lesvos we have a gym where we welcome more than 400 people every day. We offer many activities and have a full program every day! Activities range from bodybuilding, Muay Thai and Kung Fu to dancing, Parkour, fitness and exclusive women classes. Our Gym is a safe space where everyone can come to exercise: refugees, locals, volunteers. Everyone is welcome to do the sport they like or want to discover.

Hiwa gym Athens

Hiwa means hope in Kurdish. In September 2020 we took over Project Hiwa, a sports centre run by asylum seekers and open to all, one of the rare places in Athens offering sports for free. The gym opened around the beginning of 2020, and since that moment it has become an important place to go for many children, women and men, regardless of origin, religion and language. The project is co-founded by Dana and Kamara, 2 athletes that were also involved in the start of Yoga and Sport for Refugees on Lesvos.

Yoga Tent

Our space at One Happy Family is a perfect space to create a cozy and familiar atmosphere. It is where we carry out the vast majority of yoga classes, at the same time it is a space where we carry out the activities that require a more confidential environment. It is also a perfect space to promote cooperation between the different organizations that work at OHF, offering its availability to other projects that require the space for the benefit of the resident community in the fields of Lesvos.

Spanos

Team sports are popular everywhere around the world. They are a perfect tool to create community and friendship and to just have fun! Spanos is a mini football club where all kinds of team sports are offered. We practice soccer, volleyball and basketball and they provide us with all the materials we need to train.

The Hope and Peace Center

Team Humanity is a Danish NGO that has been active on Lesvos since 2015. A lot of their operations centre around the Hope and Peace Center, a place for women and children that offers them a safe haven from the hardships of Moria camp. In the Hope and Peace Centre there is an outside sports area where we carry out sports activities for women 2 hours per day, 4 days per week. Many women join the fitness and Zumba classes, and enjoy some personal time to solely focus on their body and mind.

Mountains

The mountains in Lesvos are beautiful! There are many dirt roads on the island that are amazing for trail runs. As we often run in the mountains near Moria camp, this training is one of the most accessible for our students. The popularity of the running is reflected by the high number of students joining, and by the unity across the team. On top of the training, our running team joins competitions, where we dominate the podium, and share our energy with local Greek runners. The amazing atmosphere and sense of unity exemplifies that we are stronger together!

Stadium

The stadium is one of the most exciting places to train at, both for our new and more experienced runners. Not only is it optimal for training, but it also inspires our students to greater dreams of competition. In the stadium we hold running practices of two to three hours, focused on speed, explosivity, technique and pacing. Our objective is to improve our runners capabilities and general health, but also to prepare them for upcoming competitions. In the stadium we can adapt the training to everyone’s capabilities, and strive to unleash everyone’s full potential.
